August News From Inawashiro: Shelter Update
This month we welcomed many short-term volunteers who have proven to be of great assistance in cleaning and organizing the shelter. We really appreciate all the help in making our shelter be all that it can be!
Our newest arrival at the shelter is this beautiful kitten, Terra.
He was brought to JCN at the beginning of August after the little guy was spotted being repeatedly attacked by the older, more formidable, stray cats in the neighborhood. At just 6 months old, he had a large open wound on his back, and we were quite concerned that without immediate medical attention, his injury could quickly become life-threatening. With antibiotics and loving care, however, Terra is now almost fully recovered. He is an extremely playful kitten, who loves to roll around, chase, and wrestle with the other kittens in the shelter.
This friendly and affectionate kitten is sure to win the hearts of anyone he meets, so we are hoping to find him a foster or adoptive home soon.
Also this month, JCN alumni and best friends, Mizu and Tsuki, headed off to Tokyo to meet their forever family!
As two very shy and skittish kitties, they were somewhat less likely candidates for adoption, but their new mom and dad decided to take a chance on them. Although it has taken some time and patience for Mizu and Tsuki to settle in, mom and dad now report that Mizu is doing great, and now comes running to greet mom when she arrives home from work.
Tsuki is still much shyer than her brother, but little by little, she is learning just how great it can be to have a ‘real’ home.
Their new family has been spoiling these two with scratching posts, hiding places, and custom-built climbing walls galore.
Tsuki has been re-named, Tamra. A new name for a new beginning. Good luck with your new life, Mizu and Tamra! We are so glad you are finally home!
We have received some lovely donations of food from our kind supporters this month. We really thank you for your generosity! Unfortunately, however, a few of our kitties have been dealing with upper respiratory infections lately, meaning several extra unplanned veterinary visits and unexpected expenses. This month alone, our newbie, Stitch, was neutered, and all of our young kittens (Koki, Kazu, Zelda, and Terra) are due for vaccinations, so medical bills have been sky-high.
