Buddy and Poe

For today’s #WiseWednesday, we have a wonderful story about two cats named Buddy and Poe.

This is a story about giving a shy cat a chance for a new home and family, which is often a very rewarding experience. Of course, you need a lot of patience for this and I mean a LOT; but with time, when your cat warms up to you and you see and feel the bonding and trust building up, that is what makes the waiting all worthwhile.

Buddy and Poe got adopted by Diana and are doing fantastic in their home.

Diana told us that Buddy is a cuddle bug now. He loves getting rubs and scratches while she is watching TV or crocheting.

He always needs to know where she is and what she's doing.

Poe (formerly Pao) will follow Diana around the house just to see where and what she's up to. He still doesn’t like being pet, but he will give kisses to her hand and nudge her in the morning.  He also doesn’t freak out anymore if she slides her hand over his tail when he walks by.

Both cats LOVE sitting by windows to watch the many birds she has at their feeders.

They are still inseparable! This is definitely their house, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Also, Diana told us when she first got them, she could not touch Poe at all, he was not having any of it. But look at them now, they have come so far in one year.

Thank you, Diana!

I, myself, adopted my very shy cat Yamin (calico) just over 10 months ago. Yamin was found at 2 months of age (what is already a critical age for socializing), in the streets of Kyoto. Yamin was at our rescue house for a little over seven months before we adopted her. She was not touchable at all.

During the first few months we just let her be and gave her all the time she needed to adjust. And after 6 months of no touching, she slowly warmed up to us and we are now her family. It's just wonderful to have such a strong trust with her.
