Mao

Gender: Female
Birthdate: Unknown; 5-10 years old
Health issues: None
Personality: Formerly feral; now gentle, friendly, cuddly
Special notes: Mother of Kuro, Mogu, Shirokuro

We first came across Mao last winter when she started coming into our garden for food. At that time we thought she was completely feral, because she would hiss and spit and swipe at us when we put out food for her. Then at the end of June she brought us her three kittens, then around 5-6 weeks old. We still assumed that we would TNR all of them when the kittens got a bit bigger, but then Mao started being friendly with us. Eventually, when it started getting cold a couple of weeks ago, we invited them inside our house. After a few days of letting them out during the day and then inside at night, we decided to keep them inside. They have adapted extremely well. Mao and the three kittens are now very gentle, and have never shown us any aggression. They are learning to love cuddling and playing with humans, and sleeping in warm beds. Mao has now been spayed, and the vet told us that from the state of her uterus she had clearly given birth many times, and could be ten years old although was more likely to be younger as it’s unusual for outdoor cats to live so long. She is a wonderful mama to her kittens, and I’m sure will be an adorable addition to a family. We would love for her to be homed together with one of her kittens (probably either Kuro or Mogu).
